Gershon Ben Keren is a criminologist who has been working in the security industry both as an operative and as a trainer since 1990. He has two master’s degrees, one in Psychology (Newcastle University) and the other in Criminology and Criminal Psychology (University of Essex) and is an active member of both the APA (American Psychological Association), and the ASC (American Society of Criminology). As a member of the IACA (International Association of Crime Analysts) he engages in the large-scale data analysis of crime and offending. He also holds a certificate in Conflict Resolution from the University of Cornell’s School of Business. He has worked in the security industry internationally, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the US, training individuals and organizations in the prediction, protection and management of violence using both non-physical and physical solutions.

His approach to de-escalation and conflict resolution is evidentially based, and uses the latest/most up to date research from the fields of psychology and criminology, as well as the experiences of those who have worked in the field of high stakes negotiation e.g., FBI hostage negotiators, and those who worked in establishing the New York Hostage Negotiation Unit in 1973 (a program developed by Dr. Schlossberg and Captain Frank Bolz, and which the FBI later based its HNU – Hostage Negotiation Unit - on).
